Hey. This blog is to document the experience of building a house in Mexico. Specifically, we're building a house in Lo de Marcos, which is about an hour north of Puerto Vallarta.
We've owned the piece of property that we're building on for nearly 10 years. We've regularized it, converted for private title, surveyed, subdivided, built a wall, secured, surveyed again, and made plans. And made plans. And made plans. And jumped through the many flaming hoops of Mexican bureaucracy to bring them to life.

But today is a milestone. It marks the day that we have enough approvals to be able to knock down the old house and start construction. The old house was crumbling, and if not for the poles we had inside holding up the roof, would have been entirely unsafe to even enter. It was still pretty unsafe even with the shoring.
I'll (hopefully) be filling in the rest of the back story of the last 10 years of this project as this blog progresses, but for now, here are some pictures of the old place coming down. We've been imagining this day for 10 years. If you have any questions about the build, don't be afraid to leave them in the comments.
